Cedaron Medical and the American Society of Hand Therapists Agree to Develop a National Outcomes Database
Davis, CA – September 5, 2006 – Cedaron Medical and the American Society of Hand Therapists (ASHT) have signed an agreement to market a clinical outcomes solution to meet the needs of the Hand Rehabilitation market, building upon the documentation and outcomes platform, APTA CONNECT, that Cedaron Medical previously developed in partnership with the American Physical Therapy Association.
This joint venture will lead to national outcomes database that will enable ASHT members to easily query their practice for optimization of quality and cost and electronically aggregate data to form the ASHT national database. “ASHT is a perfect fit for Cedaron.” Karen Bond, President and CEO of Cedaron Medical explained: “Cedaron provides outcomes services to verticals of the health care industry. Currently, Cedaron enjoys market leadership in cardiology, thoracic surgery, and physical therapy. The ASHT agreement is exactly what Cedaron wanted to do: provide the outcomes database links between hospital clinics, private practices, and rehabilitation clinics that specialize in the upper extremities.”
Christine Muhleman, President of ASHT stated that: “ASHT is very pleased to have entered into this joint venture with Cedaron to provide our members with a mechanism to provide outcomes and research data, practice analysis information and an electronic medical records documentation option. We look forward to working with Cedaron to develop and contribute to the creation of a hand therapy data base that will capture critical information that be a value add to the hand therapist throughout the continuum of patient care, clinical application and the science of evidence to support our practice.”
The ASHT agreement is also important because Cedaron intends to launch its patented patient outcomes data acquisition service that collects upper extremity functional data directly from the patient, and allow members to benchmark their clinical performance against a large data pool. Other features of the ASHT technology are messaging services between healthcare stakeholders, patient scheduling, reimbursement charge capture and patient functional outcomes.
Cedaron has a deep understanding of healthcare database design with a long history of providing outcomes services that the clinician uses to optimize the delivery of care. Karen Bond further elaborated: “The ASHT agreement will provide us with another very important opportunity to demonstrate our product delivery capability. Our core technology concepts were developed originally for a NASA research project. This research provided us with a competency in clinical analytics in orthopedics. Today, this core competency is largely responsible for Cedaron becoming a trusted name in healthcare outcomes analytics. We anticipate that the demand for outcomes information will not only grow in the future but expand into more complex data sets as Pay for Performance gains momentum. It is our intention that Cedaron will continue to serve the rehabilitation community with a turn key solution to meet this demand”.
The American Society of Hand Therapists is a not-for-profit organization seeking to advance the specialty of hand therapy through communication, education, research and the establishment of clinical standards. ASHT’s 3,000 members in the United States, Canada and around the world strive to be recognized leaders in the hand therapy profession.
